Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary:


The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for effective planning, directing and coordinating all aspects of maintenance processes to ensure optimal functions of production and packaging lines, equipment and building systems. This includes direct supervision of the maintenance team involved in parts inventory and parts ordering, preventative maintenance and pre-emptive preventative maintenance, electrical and electronic repair, adjustment of PLC and relay logic systems, pneumatic and other motion control diagnosis, and facility repairs. The Maintenance Supervisor schedules, trains, develops the maintenance team and monitors production and quality of maintenance work while fostering a culture of employee safety, continuous improvement and support to production. The Maintenance Supervisor provides back-up support and reference materials and contacts to outside contractors to complete tasks or repairs.

           

 Responsibilities:

1. Plans, directs, trains, coaches and supervises employees in the performance of their job duties to ensure work instructions, procedures, safety policies and GMP’s are followed and completed.

2. Manages direct reports by supervising, directing, training, and coaching to ensure employee performance meets or exceeds expectations; prepares and conducts performance appraisals and corrective actions; assists in recruitment and onboarding direct reports.

3. Inspects facilities to determine problems and necessary maintenance.

4. Prepares weekly maintenance schedules and allocates work.

5. Discusses operations and tasks with day and night shift maintenance personnel.

6. Reviews work orders and obtains parts and equipment to complete tasks.

7. Manages and advises changes to preventative maintenance and planned pre-emptive maintenance programs.

8. Monitors inventory of materials, tools, and equipment.

9. Identifies materials and parts needed to ensure proper operation of production equipment.

10. Answers and determines necessary follow-up, troubleshooting and staffing to support plant personnel during emergencies or on-call rotation.

11. Creates and reports status of planned and unplanned maintenance events by maintaining reviewing and updating general maintenance logs and records.

12. Assists in coordinating projects with Plant Manager, Director of Engineering, and Plant Superintendent.

13. Assists Plant Manager in maintaining inventory and identifying materials and parts needed for plant operation, including identifying obsolete materials.

14. Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field and 2 or more years of job-related experience or the equivalent in education and work experience is required.

2. A focus on safety, quality, and productivity and knowledge of OSHA, HAACP and good manufacturing practices for food processing are required. Completion of OSHA 30 General Industry training required.

3. Understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and utility systems including ammonia and boiler systems is required.

4. Thorough knowledge of maintenance systems, work order processes, preventative/pre-emptive maintenance, inventory, and scheduling software, preferred.

5. Computer proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and internet functions is required.

6. Strong leadership skills (conflict resolution, facilitation, change management skills, decision making, empowerment, delegation, development) preferred.

7. Strong written and verbal communication skills to develop and communicate objective and general policies, procedures, and goals is preferred.

8. Respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment is required.

9. Works well with others in environment with multiple and changing priorities while remaining organized and detail oriented is required.

10. Ability to work flexible schedule when needed, i.e. days, afternoons, nights, weekends, and an on-call schedule is required.

 

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position per work screen protocol is required.
