Busser/Dishwasher Combo

We are looking for someone who can multi-task performing a "combination" of dishwashing and table bussing duties with pride, excellence, and professionalism.  The ideal person will have knowledge of basic cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting, and organization procedures required in a restaurant environment.  The ideal person has good communication skills to occasionally interact with guests, frequently interact with other team members, and management.  Primary job duties will be in the back-of-house which requires knowledge and execution of food safety standards while performing your job duties.

What will we ask of you?  

As a Busser: 

  • Help the Servers to clear soiled dishes, clean, disinfect, and sanitize dining room tables and commonly touched areas around the restaurant.  
  • Sweep, mop, and maintain entry area, dining room, restroom, and service area  floors using safety and sanitation equipment. 
  • Maintain the overall cleanliness of restrooms and keeping supplies stocked. 
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the building grounds, sidewalks, landscaping, parking lot, outside and inside windows, glass, mirrors and doors in the dining room and restrooms. 
  • Removing trash from the all front of house and restroom trash bins.  Removing all trash and boxes into the dumpster container.  Maintaining the cleanliness of the dumpster area and all trash cans in the building. 
  • Occasionally cleaning air vents, ceiling tiles, light fixtures, walls, major equipment and replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles.  
  • Assisting with the unloading of restaurant goods and supplies from delivery trucks and stocking supply areas including dry goods, refrigerated and frozen goods in refrigerated and freezer storage areas. 
  • If knowledgeable, assist with minor repairs around restaurant with attention to safety precautions. 
  • Assisting with Dishwashing duties when necessary or performing a combination of both duties when not busy. 

As a Dishwasher: 

  • On occasion, when asked, help the Servers to clear soiled dishes, clean, disinfect, and sanitize dining room tables and commonly touched areas around the restaurant.
  • Operate a dish machine and maintain a 3 compartment sink area according to health department standards. 
  • Maintain a clean dish pit area according to all health, sanitation, and safety guidelines.  
  • Stock production areas with clean cookware, dishware, glassware, and utensils when needed. 
  • Clean kitchen equipment upon request. 
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the building grounds, sidewalks, landscaping, parking lot, outside and inside windows, glass, mirrors and doors in the dining room and restrooms. 
  • Removing trash from the all dish pit trash bins to the outside dumpster container. 
  • Removing all trash and boxes into the dumpster container.  
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the dumpster area and all trash cans in the building.

Who qualifies for this job? 

  • To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duties listed above and be able to communicate and work effectively with other team members.  
  • Must comply by IHOP uniform and appearance standards. 
  • Perform other assignments or tasks assigned by the General Manager, Assistant Manager, MOD or acting Supervisor. 

What is required physically to perform this job? 

Additional conditions listed below are representative of what can be expected when performing the duties in either position. 

  • Frequently must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100  pounds.
  • Excessive standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and stretching should be expected to complete your job duties.  
  • Regular exposure to wet and/or humid  conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat should be expected and tolerated. 
  • Regularly is exposed to fumes, airborne  particles, frequently working near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to cleaning and dish-machine chemicals.
