Willamette Valley Vineyards owns and sustainably farms eight estate vineyards in some of the most sought-after sub-appellations and produces over 50 different wines to support its thriving direct-to-consumer and wholesale channels. The winery has ambitious growth plans to double in the next 5-7 years with the opening of Tasting Room & Restaurants and a new sparkling wine facility and brand called Domaine Willamette in the Dundee Hills. This position will be a key player in those plans.

Position Overview:
Responsible for creating a world-class experience and delivering excellent customer service for guests by communicating the uniqueness of Willamette Wineworks, Willamette Valley Vineyards, all our wines, and our story. Serves guests by pouring wines for tastings, providing information to help with wine and food selections, leading wine blending experiences, and promoting the sale of wine and non-wine products.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Provides warm hospitality to members, owners, and guests while driving wine sales revenue. 
  • Supervises, leads, and trains the Tasting Room team. 
  • Serves as the Tasting Room Person in Charge when Tasting Room Manager is not present
  • Greets guests and guides them through a wine tasting experience. 
  • Describe wines, winemaking techniques, and winery history. 
  • Handle routine purchasing transactions, which includes operating cash registers and accounting for daily wine, food, and merchandise sales throughout the day. 
  • Promote the sale of wine, non-wine merchandise, Ownership, and the Wine Club.
  • Point of contact for customer service issues in the tasting room during shifts.
  • Responsible for conducting Private Tastings as assigned. 
  • Work to promote new ideas to increase monthly sales and improve On-Site Events. 
  • Works to find educational and training opportunities for TR associates. 
  • Conducts monthly inventory in conjunction with Tasting Room Manager.
  • Perform open-of-day procedures, which include opening building, preparing for daily service, opening registers, and ensuring the opening checklist is properly followed.
  • Perform close-of-day procedures, which include locking/arming the facility, reconciling poured wines, counting cash and balancing registers, ensuring that daily receipts are properly secured in the safe, and those closing checklists are properly followed. 
  • Prepare shipping documentation and special items, when applicable, and ensure that wine is shipped to reciprocal states only and that correct shipping procedure are followed. 
  • Maintain a supply of clean glasses, washing and drying racks of glasses throughout the day. 
  • Maintain daily supplies, which include bags, wine carriers, shippers, brochures, etc. 
  • General housekeeping responsibilities, which include cleaning work area, wiping counters, dusting, etc. 
  • Assist with other duties as necessary. 
  • Supports Company’s effort to create a more sustainable, cross-cultural, and “green” environment.

    Designated Associates may:
  • Serves as the person in charge of the Wineworks Tasting Room when Tasting Room Manager, Assistant Manager, or Wineworks Lead is not present.
  • Assist Wineworks Manager and Assistant Manager with special projects as assigned.
  • Assist in planning On-site events and festivals
  • Assist with the orientation and training for new TR Associates.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in customer service, food service, wine, or Hospitality fields.
  • Excellent, detail-oriented customer service & time management skills.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to multi-task, work independently and as part of a team, and build dynamics and synergy across departments.
  • A valid/current Food Handler’s Card (or willing to obtain one prior to starting date).
  • The ability to use point-of-sale (POS) systems, Google services, & Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Stand for long periods of time & work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Available to work peak traffic times including holidays, weekends, & evenings.
  • Available to work on-site events.
  • Flexible & willing to work in a continually changing environment.
  • Lift 40 lbs.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions appropriately.
  • Independently motivated to identify and resolve issues.

Must be able to
