Nyberg's ACE is looking for a motivated and organized Assistant Department Lead for our Lawn & Garden Department. This leadership position supports the Department Head in overseeing daily operations, merchandising, inventory, team development, and customer service while helping drive the department's overall success.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Assist the Department Head in leading daily department operations.
- Lead by example through exceptional customer service and professionalism.
- Help train, coach, and support team members to ensure department success.
- Assist with prioritizing tasks and delegating responsibilities when appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to improve department organization, efficiency, and sales.
- Support the execution of seasonal merchandising plans, promotions, and displays.
- Foster a positive, productive, and team-oriented work environment.
- Communicate effectively with department leadership and store management.
- Step into leadership responsibilities when the Department Head is unavailable.
- Other duties as assigned.
Customer Service
- Provide a positive representation of Nyberg's ACE at all times.
- Greet customers throughout the store and Lawn & Garden area and provide knowledgeable assistance.
- Deliver friendly, helpful service and build lasting customer relationships.
- Assist customers with product selection, problem-solving, and project recommendations.
- Answer calls, pages, and customer inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Communicate customer concerns or issues requiring management attention.
- Continuously develop product knowledge and stay informed on Lawn & Garden products and trends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Department & Store Operations
- Assist with receiving, checking in, stocking, and merchandising products.
- Maintain accurate pricing, signage, and promotional displays.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with replenishment and ordering needs.
- Maintain backstock organization and department cleanliness.
- Assist with department resets, product placement, and merchandising projects.
- Help ensure a clean, organized, and visually appealing department at all times.
- Operate equipment, including forklifts, with proper training and certification.
- Participate in store meetings and contribute ideas to improve sales, operations, and customer experience.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Appearance & Upkeep
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Lawn & Garden Department, greenhouse, and outdoor sales areas.
- Water plants, flowers, and live goods as needed.
- Ensure displays remain full, faced, and customer-ready.
- Assist with seasonal transitions and merchandise rotation.
- Maintain department supplies and communicate needs to leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous retail experience highly preferred.
- Leadership or supervisory experience highly recommended.
- Knowledge of lawn & garden products, equipment, plants, and outdoor living products strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment.
- Must be dependable, motivated, and customer-focused.
- Evening and weekend availability required.
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds.
- Bending, reaching, climbing, and working in indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions as needed.
