We’re hiring Seasonal Part-Time Lawn & Garden/Greenhouse Associates. This position will begin late March and will go through mid to late July. While this is a seasonal role, efficient and motivated team members may be considered for ongoing employment at the end of the season, subject to management discretion. Continued employment after the season ends is not guaranteed.
This position involves assisting with receiving, stocking, and pricing merchandise; moving and loading bags of soil, mulch, and fertilizer; watering plants; and maintaining a clean, organized store and greenhouse with orderly merchandise displays.
Applicants need to have evening and weekend availability.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Customer Service:
• Project a positive representation.
• Greet customers entering and throughout the store and greenhouse. Thank customers when they are leaving the store.
• Project a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as fellow associates.
• Clear customer checkout lines quickly and efficiently.
• Answer and monitor all calls and pages promptly, courteously and effectively.
• Communicate any problem or issue that requires management assistance.
• Continually build product knowledge.
• Aid customers with product location.
• Assist in pricing, stocking, marking, and bagging of merchandise.
Store Operations:
• Assist with receiving, checking in and stocking of merchandise throughout the store and greenhouse.
• Assist in creating a positive, professional and safe work environment.
• Help with unloading flowers and plants from the delivery truck 1-2x a week.
• Assist with daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room and
outdoor merchandise area.
• Water plants & flowers.
• Assist with maintaining back stock levels.
• Assist with merchandise resets.
• Provide assistance to Department Specialists, i.e. price changes, special orders.
• Ensure signage is current throughout the store.
• Operate forklift with proper training (if over 18)
• Communicate any merchandising, cost control or sales idea to the Store Leader.
• Participate in store meetings.
• Be professional in appearance and actions.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
Appearance and Upkeep:
• Keep the department and/or greenhouse, including checkout areas and entrance doors neat and clean at all times. Face items and clean as needed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
Experience
Formal retail experience preferred. Knowledge of lawn & garden tools and equipment is highly preferred.
Requirements & Physical Demands
• Ability to lift 50 lbs (bags of dirt, mulch, fertilizer, etc.)
• Standing, walking, lifting, and climbing.
• Needs to have a willingness to learn about plants, or have current plant & flower knowledge.
• The ability and willingness to work outdoors for multiple hours a day.
