A janitor or cleaner must maintain a clean facility by completing various tasks. These duties include mopping and vacuuming floors, cleaning surfaces with disinfectant, and emptying trash cans or recycling bins.
Duties and Responsibilities
A janitor/cleaner/custodian oversees keeping the workplace clean, organized, and disinfected. The following responsibilities include:
- Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Performs work assignments in a team with other employees.
- Take direction and respond to supervision.
- Talk with the manager, peers, and customers professionally.
- Use proper personal protective equipment.
- Understand customer service and satisfaction.
- Clean the interior of buildings, including floors, carpets, rugs, windows, walls, and restrooms.
- Disinfect commonly used items like desks, door handles, office tools, and phones.
- Maintain cleaning inventory and place orders for new products when needed.
- Remove debris from sidewalks.
- Empty trash and recycling bins.
