Marina Forklift Operator

Job Summary:

Marina Forklift Operator/Guest Services is responsible for daily operation, inspection, and maintenance, of heavy marine forklifts. The Marine Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient handling, launching, retrieving, and rack storage of vessels within a dry stack storage facility. This position requires precision operation of large-capacity forklifts in tight warehouse environments, strong situational awareness, and exceptional care when handling high-value customer vessels.


This position reports to the General Manager or Dockmaster. The operator/dockhand delivers superior guest service to boaters in an attentive, hospitable, friendly, and efficient manner. Works with their co-workers in a team spirit to ensure smooth and efficient marine operations. Follows the direction of the General Manager or Management to complete daily tasks in a safe, efficient and effective manner.

Being flexible and open to “pitching in” is an essential function of being part of the team! Most marina team members are multi-functional and perform many varied tasks. Especially during emergencies, (storms, floods, etc.) or peak boating times, team members will be called upon to work together and perform functions that may be in addition to their normal job duties. “That’s not my Job”, is not within our Marina operations vocabulary. The more well-rounded the team member, the more opportunities to grow and be considered for future opportunities!


Roles & Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

 Maintains pleasant, friendly and professional demeanor with all guests, co-workers, and clients

 Acknowledges and greets guests/boaters with a professional and friendly demeanor using the 10 to 5 Hospitality rule.

 Operate large-capacity marina forklifts (20–50+ ton) to launch, retrieve, and rack-store vessels in multi-level dry stack systems

 Safely position boats in storage racks with accurate alignment and spacing

 Inspect slings, straps, and lifting points prior to each move

 Coordinate closely with dock staff and dispatch to fulfill launch requests in a timely manner

 Communicate clearly via radio during vessel movements

 Conduct daily equipment inspections and report mechanical issues promptly

 Maintain organized rack layouts and assist with inventory tracking

 Follow all OSHA, marina safety, and environmental compliance standards

 Assist with facility cleanliness, yard organization, and basic maintenance tasks

 Support storm preparation procedures, including securing vessels and facility equipment

 Fuel boats and marina equipment as needed

 Aware and capable of preventing hazardous situations before they become critical

 Reports any hazards, problems, or complaints at the facility to Management and participates in the efficient resolution

 Self-motivated and vigilant with attention to detail in handling equipment, boats, and assisting customers

 Ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies and procedures

 Must demonstrate a high regard for safety

 Ability to prioritize, organize and make good judgments

All other duties perform all other duties as assigned, including carrying out responsibilities, performing duties, using skills, and working in conditions necessary to perform all assigned tasks.

Education and Experience:

 Must be at least 18 years of age.

 Highschool/High school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred

 Previous experience operating heavy forklifts (marine forklift experience strongly preferred)

 Forklift certification

 Valid driver’s license with clean record

 Understanding of weight distribution, center of gravity, and safe lifting procedures

 Ability to operate equipment smoothly in confined warehouse spaces

 Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety

 Customer service experience at least 6 months

 Strong Marine background

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent verbal communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal and guest service skills.

• Excellent customer service skills.

• Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

• Attention to detail.

• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

• Knowledge about local waters and Four Fish Marina

• Strong mechanical aptitude

Physical Requirements:

• Standing, walking and stooping for long periods of time

• Reach with arms and hands

• Use of hands and manual dexterity

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

• Work is performed mainly outdoors and must use protective sunscreen and use proper attire to cover up and prevent sunburn and/or heat related issues.


Work Schedule:

Marinas are opened seven days a week typically from morning to sunset. We strive to provide flexibility, whenever possible, and at the same time we must be able to maintain adequate staffing to meet the needs of our guests/boaters. Please note that working full or partial weekends are required.
