RESPONSIBILITIES


Position Summary / Scope of responsibility


Abilities Abound is currently seeking a Physical Therapy Technician (Aide) to assist in our facility. The Physical Therapy Technician  is responsible for providing support/assistance to Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants in their treatment of patients, under their direct supervision as required in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures and state and federal rules and regulations. The Physical Therapy Technician may also be responsible for assisting in front desk job duties as necessary. This position is ideal for someone interested in learning more about the field of Physical Therapy. 


Primary Responsibilities


The Physical Therapy Technician may be asked to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this job description. The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the Mission and Operating Procedures of Abilities Abound Physical Therapy & Wellness Center.


  • Assists the therapists in the treatment of patients, under the therapists’ direct supervision, including but not limited to the following: retrieving and/or assisting therapists with set up and administration of modalities; setting up exercise machines as necessary for each individual patient; monitoring exercise repetitions/form as requested by the therapists for patients.
  • Cleans plinths, equipment, counter tops, and any other surfaces as necessary to disinfect the clinic and maintain Abilities Abound Physical Therapy & Wellness Center’s  high standards of cleanliness.
  • Assists with organization of the gym and treatment rooms.
  • Adheres to work schedules, which are created to maximize hours of patient care and patient volume, therefore, schedules may vary from day to day depending on patient need, including early morning hours, and evening hours depending on clinic.
  • Assists with doing laundry and ensuring towels, gowns, etc. are clean, folded and put away in the appropriate place
  • Performs front desk job duties including but not limited to answering the phone, scheduling patients, patient registration, insurance verification and any other duties as specified by Clinic Manager/Clinical Director.
  • Is responsible for attending monthly clinic staff meetings or if unable to attend, he/she is responsible for obtaining a copy of the written agenda from the Clinic Manager/Clinic Director.
  • Actively participates on the Therapy team, including but not limited to staff meetings, webinars, in-services and departmental meetings.


Reporting Relationships


The Physical Therapy Technician reports directly to the Clinical Director within the assigned division.


REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES


Requirements


Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience and proficiency working with computers and electronic medical records
  •  CPR Certification-may be obtained after hiring

  • Strong Interpersonal Skills - Ability to develop relationships and collaborate with both patients and co-workers
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment with a proven track record of results
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience
  • Required to be proficient in Windows based office technologies (e.g., Word, Excel)
  • Able to work independently with little direction
  • Exudes professionalism in presentation
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in the English language.
  • Must participate in Abilities Abound Physical Therapy & Wellness Center’s training, and pass Abilities Abound Physical Therapy and Wellness Center’s Physical Therapy Technician proficiency exam.


Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with exercises.
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting.
  • Some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a standard work shift.
  • Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patients, as well as reading materials from printed sources and computer screens.
