Banquet Captain

Banquet Captain | The Grove

Lead the experience behind every unforgettable event.

We’re seeking a polished, composed Banquet Captain to join our team at The Grove, a distinguished restaurant known for exceptional service and flawless events. From intimate executive dinners to 300-guest galas, you’ll set the tone for the entire room, whether the event is hosted in our ballroom or at a venue across town.

About the Role

As Banquet Captain, you’ll lead the floor team during events, ensuring every detail from the first greeting to the final farewell reflects our standard of excellence. You’ll partner closely with the Banquet Operations Manage, Culinary, and Events teams to execute each BEO with precision. A significant part of our business is high-end weddings and private events at offsite locations, so you’ll help bring our standard of service to venues beyond our walls.

What You’ll Do

• Lead, coach, and motivate banquet servers, runners, and bartenders during service

• Review BEOs, conduct pre-event lineups, and assign sections and sidework

• Oversee room setup, including table settings, linens, buffets, and bar stations

• Plan and execute offsite events, including equipment pull lists, packing, transport, setup, and breakdown at the venue

• Direct the timing and flow of service in coordination with the kitchen, both onsite and offsite

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and guests on the floor

• Handle special requests, dietary needs, and service recovery with grace

• Maintain brand standards for appearance, cleanliness, and sanitation

• Oversee breakdown, closing sidework, and inventory of banquet equipment

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of banquet or fine dining experience, with at least 1 year in a lead or captain role

• Experience with high-end weddings, off-premise catering, or events at outside venues is a strong plus

• Polished, professional presence and a calm demeanor under pressure

• Strong knowledge of formal service styles (plated, French, buffet, reception)

• Working knowledge of wine, spirits, and beverage service

• Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to offsite venues

• Food handler and responsible alcohol service certifications (or willingness to obtain)

• Complimentary meals on shift

• Career growth within a respected hospitality group

• A supportive, team-first culture
