The Rhu is the counter-service cafe/bakery/pantry that has become a staple of the 'localvore' economy in the heart of downtown Asheville. We are serving up high-quality breakfast and lunch with a quickness and we believe in people-first hospitality from our employees to our farm partners to our guests. We are hiring a Cafe Manager, but the person will always come before the role.
The Person
As a Cafe Manager at The Rhu, you are a reliable and timely morning person. You believe that a smile, some coffee and a pastry set the tone for a good day. You thrive in a small team environment that focuses on quality. You have a strong background in food and beverage with a genuine passion for hospitality: you lead by example, treats guests and staff with respect, and you're definitely a 'foodie' looking for a great opportunity! Retail experience would be a great bonus!
The Role
- Open and/or close the cafe as needed; scheduling for the cafe
- Lead morning alignment with the team
- Support service as needed: greet guests, answer questions about the menu, ring in orders, operate espresso machine, assist with food prep, run food, run dish machine, etc.
- Lead the team by setting a positive example, coaching and counseling
- Maintain inventory for retail wares and expand local relationships
- Communicate 86es, quality or quantity issues quickly and professionally
- Work in conjunction with the Executive Chef on menu rollouts
The Qualifications
- 3+ years of customer-facing experience
- 2+ years of people management
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Lift up to 50lbs
- AM availability, Sundays required
