Position Summary: The Production Supervisor manages the hourly processing and packaging employees under the direction of the Plant Superintendent, to ensure the manufacturing of safe quality foods. Employees work 3 or 4 12-hour shifts, including every other weekend, from 5 pm to 5 am. Responsibilities include workload balance, basic troubleshooting, and performance feedback while following and holding employees accountable to company policies, standard operating procedures and achieving our goals with an emphasis on safety, quality, and productivity.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensure safety, quality, and regulatory standards are achieved daily by following SOP’s, SSOP’s, and GMP’s.
2. Plans and coordinates production to ensure efficient operations and problem solve as needed.
3. Reviews and completes production documentation, accurately and timely, including but not
limited to charts, make sheets, and sanitation logs.
4. Maintains traceability on all products from ingredients through finished products.
5. Coordinates production scheduling.
• Determines employee work schedules, including assisting in the approval of requests for time off
and assisting in the coordination of replacements to ensure appropriate staffing.
• Collaborates with maintenance, quality, and other internal and external customers to ensure
production and overall company goals are achieved.
• Schedules and ensures the completion of audits and housekeeping to ensure audit
preparedness.
6. Manages direct reports by supervising, directing, training, and coaching to ensure employee performance meets or exceeds expectations; prepares and conducts performance appraisals and corrective actions; assists in the recruitment and onboarding of direct reports.
7. Identify employee training needs, assist in providing training or request external training
registration.
8. Serves as a resource to all employees in production or other departments.
• Inspects materials, products, and equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
• Works closely with Quality and Lab on product quality and in determining if product is to be put on hold or discarded.
• Assists in problem solving.
9. Communicate with other shift Production Supervisors regularly to coordinate operations and
activities.
10. Completes Supervisor Daily Report to communicate staffing, safety, quality, production,
equipment, and other shift activities.
11. Investigates and completes documentation timely regarding employee reports of accidents, injuries and near misses.
12. Maintain confidentiality of all company and employee information.
13. Assists with equipment inspections as needed.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Supervisory Management or any related field and 2 or more years of related experience, or the equivalent in education and work experience, preferably within food industry is required.
2. Cheese Maker license and Pasteurization certification preferred.
3. A focus on safety, quality, and productivity and knowledgeable of OSHA, HAACP and good
manufacturing practices for food processing is required.
4. Ability to effectively plan and organize time, energy, and resources to achieve goals is
required.
5. Ability to perform arithmetic and mathematical calculations is required.
6. Strong leadership skills including strategic thinking, fostering teamwork, cultivating
relationships and employee development is required.
7. Ability to listen and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, is required.
8. Ability to convince, influence and negotiate to drive results is required.
9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and internet
functions is required.
Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to meet the demands of the position per work screen protocol is required.
