Position Title: Shift Lead
Employment Type: Full-Time and Part-Time / Non-Exempt
Reports To: Store Manager / Owner
Position Summary
At Wallace Chicken, our Shift Leads are more than just supervisors, they’re culture carriers and operational anchors. As a Shift Lead, you’ll help run the day-to-day operations of your shift by guiding team members, upholding service standards, and keeping the kitchen and front-of-house running smoothly. You’ll be responsible for team performance, guest satisfaction, and execution excellence during your shift. This role is ideal for someone who leads by example, communicates clearly, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Shift Lead Salary starts at $18.50/hour pending two month probationary period after which salary will be raised to $20.00/hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support team members during operating hours to ensure smooth, efficient service
- Oversee food quality, speed, and consistency during prep and rush periods
- Operate and troubleshoot the POS system, ensure accurate order entry, and monitor cash handling
- Execute and enforce all food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards
- Conduct shift checklists, station setups, and end-of-day closeouts
- Manage break schedules, delegate tasks, and keep team on pace during shifts
- Serve as the point of contact for team questions, guest concerns, or on-the-spot problem-solving
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked kitchen and front-of-house
- Communicate any equipment issues, inventory needs, or team concerns to the General Manager
- Train and mentor new team members using Wallace Chicken standards
- Model professionalism, positivity, and urgency in every task
- Manage inventory to maintain proper stock levels during busy periods while ensuring minimal waste
- Provide excellent customer service by checking in with customers to ensure satisfaction and addressing concerns promptly
Qualifications and Requirements
- Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role in QSR or food service preferred
- Proficiency in operating a POS system and basic cash handling procedures
- Strong understanding of kitchen operations, safety practices, and guest service
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stand, and move quickly throughout the shift
- Effective communicator with strong delegation and time management skills
- Able to remain calm and clear-headed under pressure or during rush periods
- Proficient in reading checklists, recipes, and procedural documentation
- Reliable and punctual with flexible availability (nights, weekends, holidays)
- Holds or is willing to obtain a valid California Food Handler Card
