JOB SUMMARY
Based at the Farther Farms' R&D facility in Rochester, NY, the Engineering Intern supports the Engineering, Operations, and Product teams in the design, development, and scaling of novel food processing technologies. This position will assist with experimental design, execution, data collection, and data analysis to support key projects tied to equipment development and process optimization. It is ideal for someone interested in applied engineering, technology commercialization, and building never-before-possible food systems with real-world impact.

SELECTION CRITERIA
- Pursuing a degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Electrical, or related discipline) or similar technical field;
- Demonstrated technical, analytical, and/or quantitative experience;
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills;
- Interest in manufacturing systems, process engineering, or applied technology development preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering and Process Development
- Assist in the design, testing, and improvement of food processing equipment and systems;
- Support experimentation and process optimization through data collection, analysis, and documentation;
- Help operate and troubleshoot pilot-scale equipment and instrumentation;
- Document designs, test results, and process learnings in clear, organized formats;
- Contribute to cross-functional project updates and development timelines.
Pilot Operations and Technical Support
- Work safely in lab and pilot manufacturing environments following all safety procedures and operational standards;
- Support day-to-day pilot facility operations as needed;
- Assist with basic maintenance, calibration, and organization of tools, equipment, and workspaces;
- Identify and communicate equipment issues, process inefficiencies, or improvement opportunities;
- Participate in training sessions and team meetings as required.
