Senior Project Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

Farther Farms is pioneering a novel CO₂-based food processing platform to redefine how food is made, preserved, and distributed. As Sr. Project Engineer you will play a critical role in the scaling up and development of our technology. This hands-on position is primarily responsible for supporting and, in certain cases, leading three integrated scopes: pilot

facility operations and capital projects; supercritical system and platform scaling; and core

research and development projects.  The ideal candidate is an engineering generalist with experience in project management, new product development, and food processing equipment. The Sr. Project Engineer will work closely with internal and external stakeholders alike. As such, communication, collaboration, and cross functional problem solving skills are key to success.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Food Engineering (or related technical field).
  •  7+ years of engineering experience — ideally within food equipment, process systems, or sanitary machinery industries.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment such as a startup or small manufacturer.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Entrepreneurial mindset — comfortable building systems from scratch and improving as you go.
  • Strong communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented yet pragmatic: able to balance engineering discipline with startup speed.
  • Self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys solving complex, hands-on challenges.
  • Willingness to execute projects of granular detail while also participating in strategic conversations
  • Intellectual humility – willingness to admit gaps in understanding and then passionately dive in to learn where needed
  • Conversant with controls systems and basic electrical engineering concepts, proficiency desired

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute when needed to the operation of supercritical CO2 pilot line
  • Lead preparation, coordination, execution, and final commissioning of capital projects for the pilot facility and labs, coordinating external contractors and vendors from identification through project completion
  • Lead budgeting, cost analyses, and purchase order paperwork;
  • Train, monitor, and oversee compliance of external contractors and internal team members with relevant safety and GMP policies and best practices.
  • Participate in experimental design, method development, and execution of supercritical platform studies using a comprehensive, analytical approach informed by the company’s long-term commercialization objectives;
  • Manage technical projects with third parties to produce on time, on budget, high quality deliverables
  • Participate in diagnosing the root causes of scale-up and experimental challenges across departments, providing clear rationale for action plans
