$70,000 - $80,000 base salary plus monthly bonus


Midwood Smokehouse, a proud member of the FS Food Group portfolio, is on the hunt for an Executive Chef to join our smokin' team and play a pivotal role in the barbecue evolution. As the BBQ virtuoso leading our kitchen, you'll be the leader behind executing a smokin' symphony of flavors, guiding a culinary team committed to serving up the most delectable barbecue in town.


Founded in 2011 in the vibrant Plaza Midwood neighborhood, Midwood Smokehouse has become a barbecue haven and a cornerstone of the culinary scene in Charlotte. A "Day in the Life" as an Executive Chef at Midwood Smokehouse:


As Midwood Smokehouse's Executive Chef, you hold a pivotal role in overseeing the entirety of our culinary operations. This includes scheduling, strategic ordering for ongoing sales trend, active involvement in hourly hiring, and ensuring flawless shift execution. Your managerial presence in the kitchen is essential, involving effective communication with on-duty sous chefs for seamless task delegation. Beyond operational duties, you are entrusted with developing and mentoring sous chefs and your back-of-house team, shaping the future of culinary excellence within our kitchen. Your precision and commitment are key to ensuring every dish reflects the Midwood Smokehouse brand.


Executive Chef Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the general manager to ensure a positive guest experience, exceeding dining expectations when it comes to food quality and consistency.
  • Assist in hiring, supervising, and developing culinary teams, fostering a positive and motivating work environment.
  • Skillfully assess day-to-day culinary operational demands and address restaurant concerns effectively.
  • Ensure accurate and efficient completion of all culinary-related financial, personnel, and administrative duties following company policies and procedures.
  • Uphold health safety and sanitation standards, including food handling, cleanliness, and restaurant maintenance.

Executive Chef Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (Four Year Degree or Culinary Degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 4 years of full-service culinary management experience in a high-volume kitchen, preferably with a heavy concentration on barbecue and/or Tex-Mex cuisine.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Advanced knowledge of restaurant financials including how to read budgets, labor projections, and a P&L statement.
  • Advanced knowledge of food safety and sanitation requirements in Mecklenburg County.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of professional cooking, knife handling skills, and a voracious appetite for knowledge.
  • The ability to pivot when curve balls get thrown at you and keep your composure.
  • Valid ServSafe certification is a plus!
