Passionate Writing Teachers Needed for Engaging After-School Tutoring at Sylvan Learning Center!
Sylvan Learning Center of Walnut Creek is looking for fun, dedicated teachers to help and inspire students. We are currently seeking teachers who are skilled in teaching writing through the SylvanSync Writing program, with a focus on foundational writing skills, essay-writing across multiple genres, and mechanics for students in grades 2-12.
SylvanSync Writing provides students with personalized Learning Plans, continuous progress monitoring, and tailored instruction to help them become more successful writers. You’ll be working with small groups of three students, guiding them through activities that strengthen their writing process, essay composition, and mechanics.
Key Areas of Instruction Include:
- Writing process and traits
- Descriptive paragraphs, narrative, informative, and argument essays
- Research papers
- College application essays
- Mechanics (grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization)
- Constructed response (test-prep writing and writing across the curriculum)
- Optional vocabulary and handwriting activities

What you should know:
• You will use pre-planned lessons. They are straightforward, easy to manage, and fun to teach.
• Teach students in a small group setting. There will be no more than 3 students per teacher.
• Most teachers choose to work 2-5 days/week
• We are open for instruction weekday afternoons, weekday mornings in the summer and Saturday mornings.
• This is NOT a remote position
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree required, Teaching Credential recommended (but not required)
• You must enjoy teaching, working, and inspiring students. (We want you to be happy here!)
• Being punctual is extremely important. You must be local and have reliable transportation.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
