ABOUT THE ROLE

The General Manager is responsible for overseeing and mentoring of the Experience Guides (Front Desk), Massage Therapists, and leadership teams while maintaining seamless operations of the business, top-level guest experience, and revenue & cost optimization. We’re looking for an individual who can inspire the team, act with a sense of urgency and maintain a culture of exceptional service. The GM will work closely with the Director of Operations (who previously was the Long Beach GM) and franchise owners, who are engaged in the business full-time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The General Manager is responsible for boutique operations and will be tasked with leading the team to achieve KPI goals, including massage therapist hours, membership conversion and schedule optimization. While we do not have an aggressive sales model, the right person will still need to excel in "selling;" ideas, policies, products, and services within the boutique team and to our members and guests. The fast-paced, results-oriented environment demands quick adaptability and the skill to motivate others to adjust to business challenges and achieve organizational goals.

 

The ideal candidate will:

  • Work with ownership on the recruitment, hiring and continuous development of the team, both Front Desk and Massage Therapists
  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with all employees and ensure employees do the same with one another
  • Efficiently manage scheduling demands with a sense of urgency
  • Build, maintain and optimize team schedules to maximize productivity, efficiency and profitability – scheduling optimization is a top priority!
  • Proactively resolve guest issues and employee relations in a manner reflective of The NOW Brand Truths
  • Maintain a culture devoted to treating others well – guests and team members alike. Guest and team member satisfaction are essential to our business and set us apart!
  • Address internal reviews in a timely manner, coaching others as appropriate
  • Manage team member performance/improvement via documentation of incidents and delivery of feedback
  • Understand key revenue and cost drivers, and make business decisions to grow sales and optimize expenses
  • Lead by example in promoting services, enhancements, membership, and retail
  • Perform accounting support duties, such as recording daily cash flow, managing the payroll process, and owning the boutique inventory process
  • Identity any facility maintenance/repairs needed and work with leadership to address
  • Uphold our high standards of cleanliness, safety, and compliance (including massage therapy laws)
  • Work with franchise owners to plan and oversee promotions and collaborations with local businesses

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of management experience
  • 2+ years of industry or likeminded business experience (operating a fast-paced, high-volume business, preferably in a personal service field)
  • Familiarity with membership programs and/or wellness industry experience preferred
  • Proven track record in sales and building a recurring guest base with a sense of community
  • Business acumen: ability to quickly digest information and make informed management decisions
  • Excellent communication, listening, and computer skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including at least one weekend day, plus occasional nights and holidays – that said, work-life balance is important for all and the owners are committed to respecting a healthy balance
  • Must be a team leader and enjoy mentoring people

ABOUT THE OWNERS:

  • The NOW Long Beach is owned by a husband and wife team, who bring complementary skillsets to their NOW massage venture: Jamie brings her sales and marketing expertise to the day-to-day operations of the business, while Mike leverages his franchise-focused finance and transactional background to optimize reporting, compliance and other administrative elements of their boutiques
  • Jamie and Mike first visited the NOW as customers in 2016. Six years later, they opened their first The NOW in Long Beach at 2nd & PCH – this location holds the honor of being the strongest opening of any The NOW boutique to date! In February 2024, Jamie and Mike opened a second location in Newport Beach’s Corona Del Mar neighborhood, and in November of this year (2025) they opened their third location in Laguna Niguel, with more locations on the way. They are devoted to building a company, not just opening locations, and believe in investing in the infrastructure necessary to support boutique GMs and their teams, while creating long-term career opportunities with growth potential
