Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Recovery Counselor – Inpatient
Location: Hayward, CA
Schedule:
10:00 AM – 6:00 PM or 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday
Reports To: Program Director, Medical Neurobehavioral Program
$26-$32 per hour - FULL TIME
About the Role
We are seeking a Recovery Counselor / SUD Counselor to support residents within our inpatient behavioral health program. This is a great opportunity for someone with substance use treatment experience who is interested in expanding their skills working with older adults and individuals with complex behavioral health needs.
You do not need to have extensive experience with aging populations or medical conditions to apply — we are willing to train the right candidate. We value compassion, reliability, emotional intelligence, and a genuine desire to help people recover and heal.

What You’ll Do
- Facilitate recovery and psychoeducational groups
- Provide supportive one-on-one counseling sessions
- Help residents develop relapse prevention and recovery goals
- Support individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and the interdisciplinary treatment team
- Maintain clear and timely documentation
- Encourage resident engagement, emotional regulation, and healthy routines
- Help create a safe, structured, and supportive treatment environment
Qualifications
Required
- CADC, CATC, or registered counselor status (or currently working toward certification)
- Experience in substance use treatment, recovery services, mental health, or related field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate and team-oriented approach
Preferred (But Not Required)
- Experience with co-occurring disorders
- Experience working in residential or inpatient settings
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care
- Bilingual skills are a plus
