The Host is responsible for providing excellent guest service by greeting and engaging the guest, being welcoming, organized, smiling, and enthusiastic.  The expectation is that all guests are welcomed by the Host and provided with guidance and a sincere and gracious disposition. The Host impacts the restaurant by accommodating guest questions and needs, helping and encouraging fellow team members, and ensuring smooth communication and service for the guest from their entrance into the establishment to their departure.


Skills/Qualifications:

  • Guest service mentality; has a genuine desire to please the guest.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills.  Ability to read write and speak in English
  • Self-starter who is energetic and flexible. Identifies additional tasks to be completed and willingly assists others
  • Maintains a calm, tactful demeanor when dealing with difficult situations
  • Prioritizes responsibilities and achieves results through multi-tasking
  • Forms strong working relationships within theteam
  • Follows direction with focused attention
  • Skill and coordination at administrative duties such as message taking, and phone and computer/tablet use.
  • Ability to hear and respond to co-workers and guests in an often loud environment
  • Exhibits strong retention of information received by guests in order to provide expedient service and correct mistakes in a timely manner
  • Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for periods of up to 8 hours in length


Responsibilities:

GUEST

  • Warm and genuine greetings and using the guests’ names is a constant priority and focus
  • Engage and welcome our guests by providing warm and friendly greetings and salutations, actively creating a sense of community within the establishment, and contributing to an environment of excellence.
  • Expected to be knowledgeable and confident about Priority Seating, cover counts, open menus counts, walk-in accommodations, phone systems, general information, and the History of Black Rock. 
  • Always smiling, while on the telephone and interacting with guests.
  • Using professional verbiage, proper etiquette, and speaking clearly at a comfortable pace for comprehension
  • Dedication to confirmation of accuracy for priority seating, using guests’ names.
  • Must be able to calmly respond to any guests' needs and notify a manager when those needs cannot be met by yourself.
  • Anticipate the needs of guests and continue to raise your own standards in regards to guest experience

TEAM

  • Doing your part as a team member, working “heads up” and “pilot to co-pilot” in order to see the opportunities to help others
  • Asking for help early, in order to prevent problems or miscommunications.

OPERATIONS

  • Sets up, maintains, and operates Host station, Lobby, Foyer, and Restrooms.
  • Greets, serves, and accommodates all guests in a warm and friendly manner. Walks them to their tables and introduces necessary menus and provides server’s name.
  • Exhibits expert telephone etiquette and operation.
  • Adheres to quality standards and department rules and procedures.
  • Takes Walk-in table requests and Priority Seating requests and inputs them into the wait system.
  • Plans and executes a wait over volume, maintaining the integrity of server rotations.
  • Distributes cover count and open menu counts to the necessary staff.
  • Sweeps, wet mops, and/or brushes floors, as needed or directed by manager. Posts ‘wet floor’ sign to mopped floors.
  • Busses tables and ensures marketing materials and menus are positioned appropriately.
  • Unloads trucks, pallets, and cases of food and beverage and puts themin assigned locations.
