Position Summary

The Park Patrol Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all guests and staff. This position requires high visibility throughout the park, active enforcement of park rules and applicable Indiana State laws, assistance with vehicle recoveries and towing operations, and support of ongoing trail maintenance efforts. The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, professional, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the park to promote safety and customer compliance.
  • Enforce park rules, policies, and regulations.
  • Enforce applicable Indiana State laws while on park property.
  • Conduct routine and random patrols of park grounds, trails, campsites, and facilities.
  • Respond promptly to incidents, accidents, disturbances, and emergencies.
  • Assist with off-road vehicle recoveries, including towing and recovering stuck vehicles.
  • Operate recovery equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Provide security patrol during operational and non-operational hours.
  • Document incidents, rule violations, and accidents in detailed written reports.
  • Provide professional customer service while addressing violations or safety concerns.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement or emergency services when necessary.
  • Assist guests with general park information and directions.
  • Monitor for unsafe conditions, hazards, or suspicious activity.

Trail Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Perform routine trail inspections to identify safety hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Clear brush, debris, and obstructions from trails.
  • Install, repair, and maintain trail signage and boundary markers.
  • Assist with minor trail repairs and upkeep to ensure safe riding conditions.
  • Report major trail damage or safety concerns to management.
  • Operate maintenance tools and equipment safely.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate trucks, UTVs, recovery equipment, and towing equipment.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power equipment for trail maintenance.
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, military, park operations, or off-road recovery preferred.
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to write clear and accurate reports.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, pull, and maneuver heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Ability to perform physical labor including brush clearing and signage installation.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily outdoors in an off-road park setting and may involve exposure to noise, mud, dust, heavy equipment, and uneven terrain. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
