About the Opportunity

Responsible for safe transportation of residents to and from physician or other appointments. Plans drop off and pick up times to ensure timely service. Maintains the resident transport vehicles in a safe, clean condition.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Ensures the CAPLICO Core Values and Code of Conduct are adhered to at all times. Ensures compliance with Resident Rights and HIPAA policies at all times. Drives residents to and from appointments according to the transportation schedule, using the designated community vehicle(s). Assists residents with entering and exiting the vehicle when necessary. Assists residents into and/or out of the destination when necessary. Ensures that any resident paperwork is dropped off at each physician’s office and returned to the nurse’s office upon the resident’s return. Ensures that each vehicle has sufficient fuel to cover the current shift of appointments as well as the following shift. Maintains the cleanliness of all transport vehicles by vacuuming the seats and floor, cleaning the windows and keeping the dash and interior clean. Inspects the transport vehicle(s) daily to ensure that there are no issues of safety that need immediate attention, to include: tire pressure, emergency lights, turn signals, oil levels, car body, etc. Practices good safety awareness and procedures; proactively addressing safety concerns as well as bringing them to the attention of appropriate personnel for corrective action. Encourages residents to be as independent as possible but assists residents as necessary. May perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.


Work Environment

Works all throughout the community/community and general locale. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.). Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors. Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, COVID-19 and the AIDS and Hepatitis viruses. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.


Physical Demands and Sensory Requirements

(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

  • Must be able to move frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Requires hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, normal range vision or the use of prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met (e.g.: accurately read measurements on resident related equipment such as thermometers, monitors, gauges). Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility and the ability to work effectively with residents, employees, visitors and support agencies. Must be in a good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to relate and work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people within the community. Must be capable of operating community transport vehicle(s) safely. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to push/pull 100lbs. Requires sitting, reaching, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, and bending. Must be able to assist with the evacuation of residents.

Specific Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Be a minimum of 18 years or age. Must be able to obtain criminal history clearance. Must comply with all training requirements. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Ability to be calm and level-headed in emergencies. Well groomed, professional and possess ability to work harmoniously with other personnel. Follows written and oral instructions. Maintain patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as ability to handle residents, staff, and visitors, based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning. Must possess a valid driver’s license; s and maintain a clean driving record with no major violations over the previous five years.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license and no major traffic violations over the previous 5 years.
  • Must be familiar with general locale and roads in the service area.
  • CPR certification is desirable.
