DESCRIPTION
Servpro of Stamford, and its subsidiaries, is seeking an experienced and strategic Financial Controller to join our executive team. The Controller will play a critical role in managing the financial health of our organization, ensuring fiscal responsibility and financial statement integrity, and driving the company's financial strategy for growth and success.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
FINANCIAL REPORTING
- Evaluate and implement financial systems and tools to streamline processes and enhance reporting accuracy across all three of our operating subsidiaries.
- Prepare, improve, and issue monthly financial statements for all entities for review by the executive management team and external parties.
- Present financial reports and recommendations to the President.
- Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting internal audits and providing requested information to outside accountants.
- Maximize return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
- Review and prepare monthly commission and royalty reports
- Ensure timely filing and payment of state & federal taxes
- Prepare daily bank reconciliations
- Interact with outside accountants, attorneys, and bankers as necessary
INTERNAL CONTROLS & PROCESSES
- Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting key performance metrics (KPMs) along with our COO.
- Define, revise, and implement policies, procedures, and guidelines across all accounting departments and operating subsidiaries to ensure consistency.
- Ensure an effective process is in place for the collections of accounts receivable.
- Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls along with our operations personnel.
- Establish and manage recurring vendor payments
- Maintain a high degree of tact and confidentiality.
DEPARTMENTAL DEVELOPMENT
- Promote a culture of continuous amongst accounting department personnel by training, coaching, disciplining, and appraising performance results.
- Mentor and develop the finance team to drive excellence.
- Ensure the culture of the franchise is adopted and maintained within all accounting departments.
- Collaborate with all departments and subsidiaries to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
- Actively participate in and influence business growth, direction, strategic planning, financial forecasting, and acquisition integration as a member of the executive management team.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
- Perform other ad hoc assignments and analyses as requested by management
BUDGETING
- Work with the business management team to develop an annual budget.
- Prepare budgets by establishing schedules, collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data.
- Achieve budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
- Assign quarterly objectives based on the annual plan and budget to all accounting department managers, hold managers accountable.
REQUIREMENTS, DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
- Proven experience as a Controller or senior financial leadership role.
- Must be extremely proficient in QuickBooks Online as well as the Microsoft Office suite
- Extensive knowledge of financial principles, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong strategic planning and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team to achieve financial goals.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Previous franchise or construction industry experience highly desired.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.

Physical Demands: Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to travel from office location to job sites. Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds may be required.
