Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

 

Position Summary:

Assists and supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing department to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is always maintained.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Valid RN license, in good standing, current CPR and BLS certifications
  • Minimum, two (2) years’ experience as a supervisor in health care setting
  • Minimum six (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
  • Outstanding communication (oral/written), organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with PCC a plus
  • Ability to multi-task and treat everyone at work kindly and professionally
  • Works collaboratively and independently, following procedures and guidelines
  • Completes tasks on time, reporting up on successes, challenges, and offering solutions 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors scheduling and staffing to ensure daily PPD requirements are met
  • Aids nursing staff as needed (includes admissions, medication passes, wound care, etc.)
  • Participates in developing, updating and implementing department policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
  • Interacts with residents and families/responsible parties and staff; instilling confidence in care, answering questions, giving directions and ensuring care plans are followed
  • Works with MDS Coordinator to schedule care plan meetings and reviewing resident records to ensure they are updated and accurate
  • Assist in developing and communicating a nursing service organization structure
  • Participates in discharge planning
  • Makes rounds to ensure patient needs are met and employees are completing assignments
  • Assists in surveys (inspections); and following up with corrective measures
  • Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals as required by state and federal law
  • Remains up to date on regulations pertaining to clinical and skilled nursing practices
  • May serve on committees and work with other department leaders as assigned
  • Participates in, and complies with, annual facility in-service training programs
  • Performs administrative and clerical duties such as charting, completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, etc., as necessary and/or assigned
  • Participates in interviewing and selecting appropriate residents for admission to the facility, including PASARR screenings
