Work Location: Corporate Headquarters – North Charleston, SC


Working Hours: Regular hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Job Summary: The Loss Prevention Intern will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Loss Prevention, Investigations, and Physical Security strategies across a multi-state, multi-site convenience store and fuel retail operation. This role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented individual pursuing a career in corporate Loss Prevention, Asset Protection, Investigations, and/or Physical Security. The intern will gain exposure to real-world incident investigations, security work orders (CCTV, Safes, and burglar alarms, etc.), and business continuity initiatives—all under the mentorship of Loss Prevention leadership.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:


• 1. Core Loss Prevention & Investigations Principles

Investigations 101: Policies & Procedures, Ethics, Investigative Methods

LP Resource & Tool Review – Exception Reporting, CCTV, Power BI

Other LP Innovation Tools

Shrink Reduction Strategies

Law Enforcement Partnerships & Legal Procedures


• 2. Physical Security Fundamentals


Basics of Physical Security Equipment, Maintenance & Repair

Managing Work Orders and Vendor Relationships

CCTV – Cameras, DVRs

Burglar Alarm Administration

Safes – Managing Repairs & Installations


• 3. Business Continuity & Emergency Planning


How we plan for hurricanes, robberies, power outages, and supply chain disruptions

Crisis communication planning and post-incident response workflows


• 4. Incident Reporting, Response & Documentation


How incidents such as Robberies, Burglaries, Shoplifting, and Workplace Violence are handled and documented

Internally reviewing incident data and participating in After Action Reviews as necessary

Follow-up with field team to gather additional report information


• 5. Communication, Training & Collaboration


Field Team Communication & Relationship Building

Interdepartmental Collaboration

Assist in the development, enhancement, and maintenance of internal applications and services under the guidance of senior developers.

Write, review, and debug code using modern programming languages and frameworks appropriate to the team’s tech stack.

Leverage AI-assisted development tools (Replit, Codex, Claude Code) to accelerate learning, prototyping, and implementation.

Participate in code reviews, team stand-ups, and technical discussions to learn best practices and team standards.

Help test and validate software features, identify bugs, and document findings.

Create and maintain technical documentation, including README files and basic design notes.

Collaborate with team members to understand requirements and translate them into working solutions.

Follow established development processes, security guidelines, and coding standards.

Demonstrate professionalism, curiosity, and a willingness to learn new technologies and approaches.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: An ideal candidate will have experience with or understanding of:

• GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

• Analytical mindset with attention to detail and the ability to interpret trends and data

• Comfortable working independently and within a fast-paced, evolving corporate environment

• Interest in retail operations, loss prevention, safety, security, and/or business continuity

• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally to store locations, if needed


Education and Experience: An ideal candidate will have the following education and experience:


• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in one of the following fields (or related):

Criminal Justice

Criminology

Risk Management

Safety or Occupational Health

Business Administration

Insurance & Risk

Legal Studies

Emergency Management


Working environment and physical requirements:


• Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.

• Must be able to remain stationary.


Travel:

• Must be able to travel up to 20%.
