Job Title: Janitorial Floor Crew and Utility Maintenance

Reports To: Team Leader

Job Summary

A janitorialfloor crew / utility worker is a vital facilities role responsible for keeping

buildings clean, sanitary, and covering jobs. They combine heavy-duty floor

care (stripping, waxing, buffing, and vacuuming) with general utility work,

such as waste management, light maintenance, supply stocking.

Core Responsibilities


Floor Crew

  • Deep Cleaning: Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum all hard surfaces and carpeted areas.
  • Floor Refinishing: Strip, seal, wax, and buff commercial floors (e.g., vinyl, tile, concrete) to maintain a polished look and extend their lifespan.
  • Stain & Rug Care: Operate commercial carpet shampooers and stain extractors.

Utility Worker Duties

  • Trash & Recycling: Empty, clean, and sanitize waste bins; transport trash to central disposal areas.
  • Restroom Sanitation: Disinfect toilets, sinks, and mirrors; restock consumables like paper towels, toilet paper, and soap.
  • Supply & Inventory: Monitor cleaning chemical supplies and request reorders when inventory is low.

Key Skills & Requirements

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, and lift/move heavy objects (typically up to 50 lbs).
  • Equipment Operation: Proficiency in handling heavycommercial machinery, including floor buffers, burnishers, auto-scrubbers,and industrial vacuums.
  • Chemical Safety: Knowledge of OSHA safety protocols, proper dilution/mixing of chemicals, and using Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Reliability: Ability to follow detailed cleaning schedules and work independently or as part of a night/weekend crew
