This position is school based, working on site within a private special education day school.  

 

Estrella Day School is a private special education school located in Goodyear, Az. We are currently seeking a paraprofessional to join our existing team of friendly teachers and learning coaches. We are a growing school who specialize in providing individualized instruction for each student. We make research-based decisions along with an ABA and Therapeutic approach to enhance our student's education and quality of life. We are looking for someone who is ready to join. Our students present with varied diagnoses including but not limited to: Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Physical/ Intellectual Disabilities. Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of a certified special education teacher, the paraprofessional will provide support to the teachers by assisting students both academically, behaviorally and with their activities of daily living within the classroom.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Work as part of a classroom team to support academic instruction and behavior management/plans.
  • Execute lessons as directed by the teacher or classroom lead. These may include supporting independent work, special projects, teaching a lesson to a small group or running discrete trials with students.
  • Follow behavioral supports and behavior plans as directed.
  • Assist students in participating in classroom routines, transitions and self-care tasks (as necessary)
  • Collect data on behavior and academics as directed.
  • Implement behavior strategies in alignment with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies).

The physical demands described here must be met by an employee to successfully

perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of

this job, the employee is frequently required to:

  • Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (stoop, reach, stand, kneel, squat, sit, walk, lift, pull, grasp) for extended periods of time
  • Must be willing and able to implement safety measures consistent with Article 9 and Prevention and Support such as: therapeutic holds and transporting holds, utilizing quick body movements in the course of maintaining the safety of students with special needs
  • Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors

Required:

  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card (or ability to get one)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years self-contained, clinic, or private day setting experience working with children with special needs

Schedule:

  • Hours from 7:30-3:00 Mon-Fri
  • Follow a typical school calendar with holidays and breaks off
  • Potential for working summer school
