We are seeking a dependable and hands-on Store Supervisor to help lead daily operations at our locally focused hardware store. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with customers, supporting a small team, and ensuring the store runs smoothly—from staff scheduling and problem-solving on the sales floor. The right candidate will combine strong customer service skills with practical leadership, a willingness to jump in wherever needed, and an appreciation for the community-centered environment that makes our store unique.

Our goal is to provide exceptional service to every customer every day.  Each employee is expected to serve any customer they encounter by assisting them or finding them the help they need. 

 

This position oversees the day-to-day operation of the Annville location by performing the following duties: 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides service to customers in the store.  Actively listens and asks questions to evaluate customer’s needs and find the product or solution to meet those needs.  Ensures that store associates are trained to do the same. 
  • Provides guidance and direction to the store with assistance from the Hardware Division Manager. Determines goals and priorities; develops and implements plans to ensure that store objectives are met. 
  • Listens to customer complaints and resolves problems to restore and promote good public relations. 
  • Determines staffing needs for the store; reviews applications, interviews and selects personnel for open positions. 
  • Develops a work schedule to ensure adequate coverage; schedules work hours and breaks; reviews and approves requests for time off. 
  • Establishes performance standard and objectives.  Establishes and communicates job expectations, ensures the availability and completion of training, and evaluates individual performance. 
  • Trains and enforces store policies, procedures, and job duties; ensures written and verbal instruction. 
  • Coaches and counsels employees; issues warnings and discipline. Makes recommendations for terminations and participates in termination meetings. 
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances. 
  • Reviews requests from salespeople for the addition of new merchandise. 
  • May be required to represent Bomberger’s store and/or the Hardware division on in/out of store committees and groups with occasional travel to trade shows. 
  • Supervises staff in maintaining a clean and organized warehouse. 
  • Ensures the store is merchandised in an attractive and inviting way (ex. is clean and well stocked) 
  • Makes sure store is accessible from the outside (i.e. snow clearing, etc) 
  • Attends meetings with other Ace Hardware retailers as required.  
  • Functions as a member of the hardware supervisor team; 
  • Acts as a safety advocate for the store. Enforces the company's safety policies; monitors processes and procedures for potential hazards; ensures proper store personnel training and supports the safety committee's activities. 
  • Maintains full knowledge of the layout of the division and can easily locate product. 
  • Performs sales duties to relieve employees during peak work periods or staff shortages. 
  • Work with loss prevention team with monitoring theft and the legal pursuit of shoplifters   

 Works with Divisional Corporate staff to monitor the following: 

  •  Work with Retail Asset Management team to ensure accurate inventory and defective merchandise; shortages and returns are accounted for. 
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency.  Continuously seeks opportunities for improvement; uses creativity and innovation to solve problems. 
  • Runs and reviews a daily report to track sales and trends. 
  • Ensures that sales floor plan and products are up to date. 
  • Evaluates and implements new programs. 


Job Requirements:

  • Directly supervises 7-10 employees.  Is responsible for the overall direction of the store. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and reclosing problems. 
  • Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license 
  • May be able to travel overnight a few times a year to trade shows.   
  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
