Role Summary
The Back-of-House (BOH) Director is responsible for leading all kitchen operations with excellence—ensuring that every guest receives hot, fresh, craveable food prepared safely, accurately, and efficiently. This leader will oversee food safety, quality, speed, and cost performance while developing and empowering team members to perform at a high level. The BOH Director models servant leadership, operational discipline, and care for others in alignment with Chick-fil-A’s purpose: to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
- Ensure all food is prepared according to Chick-fil-A standards for quality, presentation, and freshness.
- Oversee daily kitchen operations including opening, peak, and closing routines.
- Maintain food safety and cleanliness standards that meet or exceed Health Department, EcoSure, and Chick-fil-A requirements.
- Manage food cost through portion control, waste tracking, and accurate prep forecasting.
- Ensure all BOH systems and tools (e.g., Core 4 Kitchen Systems, Path to Zero Waste, and FIFO rotation) are followed consistently.
- Partner with the Front-of-House Director to ensure smooth handoff and communication between kitchen and front counter during all dayparts.
Leadership & Development
- Lead by example through hands-on engagement during peak hours.
- Recruit, train, and develop BOH leaders and team members to achieve operational excellence.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching sessions to build a culture of accountability, growth, and care.
- Schedule strategically to balance labor efficiency and guest experience.
- Foster a positive, high-energy environment that motivates the team to “Win Hearts Every Day.”
Financial Stewardship
- Monitor and manage food cost variance, productivity, and labor spend to achieve targeted goals.
- Lead inventory management and weekly ordering processes to maintain proper stock levels without over-ordering.
- Track and analyze metrics such as food waste, throughput, productivity, and accuracy, identifying improvement opportunities.
Culture & Brand Stewardship
- Model Chick-fil-A’s values of integrity, excellence, and care in all interactions.
- Create an environment of teamwork, respect, and open communication.
- Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to restaurant-wide initiatives.
- Support the Operator in developing future leaders and building a sustainable, scalable team.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of Chick-fil-A or equivalent leadership experience (preferred).
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop others.
- Strong understanding of food safety and kitchen operations.
- Demonstrated track record of managing systems, metrics, and processes effectively.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Servant-hearted leader with a passion for excellence and care for people.
