Job Summary:
We are seeking a Garden Associate. This associate will maintain, upkeep, and develop our garden department. The position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the garden, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively, and that the garden is maintained to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with a team in the maintenance and upkeep of the garden, including managing inventory and organization of product
- Conduct regular inspections of the garden to identify areas for improvement and implement those action plans
- Manage garden resources, including plant materials, tools, and equipment
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure that garden activities are integrated with other store activities
- Help in training and guidance to new garden staff on best practices and new techniques
- Help maintain a calendar of garden events and activities
Requirements:
- Experience is preferred but not necessary, willing to train
- Strong knowledge of plant identification and gardening techniques preferred/ not necessary
- Excellent team mentality and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to lift heavy loads (up to 50 pounds) and work in a physically demanding environment
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Valid driver's license (if applicable)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Passion for gardening and plants
- Previous retail and customer service experience
- Strong communication and team mentality
- Ability to work weekends and 8-hour shifts
Working Conditions:
- This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions (rain or shine)
- May require working on uneven terrain or in areas with heavy vegetation
- May require working with hazardous materials (e.g. pesticides, herbicides)
- This position is seasonal, motivated associates will have opportunities in other departments if available
