Sales Associate

Rate of pay$15 - 18 per hour

The primary responsibilities of the Sales Associate position are to maintain outstanding customer service, generate sales, and merchandise products, and support the store management team.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure each customer receives outstanding service which follows the S.A.L.E.S process and by mystery shop standards
  • Provide a positive representation
  • Greet customers entering and throughout the store. Thank customers when finished and when leaving the store
  • Possess a friendly outgoing demeanor; work well with customers and associates
  • Ensure all pages and calls are answered promptly, courteously, and effectively
  • Forward any customer complaint that cannot be handled to a member of the management
  • Possess strong product knowledge and knowledge of store layout and location of products
  • Assist customers throughout the store with personal, customized service based on the premise of amazing every customer, every time.

Store Operations:

  • Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements
  • Assist in creating a positive, professional, and safe work environment
  • Assist with receiving, checking in, and stocking merchandise throughout the store
  • Assist with maintaining back stock levels
  • Assist with the daily maintenance, orderliness, and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room, and outdoor merchandise area
  • Uphold merchandising and store cleanliness standards
  • Responsive for safety issues
  • Conscious of shoplifting activity
  • Aid customers in locating merchandise in store, on acehardware.com, as well as, processing special orders
  • Be professional in appearance and actions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

The minimum requirements for this position include:

  • Posses product knowledge of hardware related products along with a willingness to learn.
  • Experience: Sales experience in a retail environment, establishing relationships and working with customers
  • Previous experience in a retail environment a plus
  • Skills/Knowledge: Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word and Excel a plus.
  • A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction
  • Solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational ability, high attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the business

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds frequently to load and unload freight and customer orders
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time
  • Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entails lifting and perform all functions as set forth
