Front of House Team Member

Requirements for all Roles 

All roles, tipped and regular, will be expected to comply with the safety policies and  procedures designated in our handbook, in amendments to the handbook, or in other policies as  communicated by management. Additionally, all employees are required to be certified  according to the guidelines and requirements outlined by the relevant State and Federal agencies.  


Downstairs Bartenders 

The downstairs bartender will service the downstairs bar, dining rooms, and patio in the  following ways: 

  • Provide full service to small, four-seat bar. 
  • Facilitate to-go orders: 
  • Coordinate with Hosts and Upstairs Bartenders to take & enter to-go orders. 
  • Function as a point of contact for direct and third-party customers ordering to-go. 
  • Deliver orders to customers via in person or curbside pick-up. 
  • Make drinks for servers and deliver to downstairs sections as needed. 
  • Provide additional support to servers as needed. 
  • Prepare service station. 
  • Prepare small food items/garnishments for use by bartenders in drinks, tapas, appetizers,  and desserts. 
  • Maintain cleanliness of service station. 
  • Assist in maintenance of restaurant cleanliness as needed.
  • Including bathrooms, patios, dining rooms, and guest thoroughfares. 
  • Properly reporting all tips received at the end of each shift without exception. 


The starting wage for a Downstairs Bartender will be $2.13/hour, and they will receive a  portion of the pooled tips allocated for Bartenders as outlined above. Any tips, credit card or  cash, received directly from the customer will be retained (and properly reported) by the  employee and will not contribute to the tip pool. 


Upstairs Bartenders 

The Upstairs Bartender will service the upstairs bar and patio in the following ways: 

  • Provide full service to the upstairs bar and tables. 
  • Service available to upstairs section will be limited to drinks and tapas. 
  • Facilitate to-go orders: 
  • Coordinate with Hosts and Downstairs Bartenders to assist in processing to-go  orders. 
  • Make drinks for servers and deliver to upstairs, patio section as needed. 
  • Provide additional support to upstairs, patio servers as needed. 
  • Prepare service station. 
  • Prepare small food items/garnishments for use by bartenders in drinks, tapas, appetizers,  and desserts. 
  • Maintain cleanliness of service station. 
  • Assist in maintenance of restaurant cleanliness as needed. 
  • Including bathrooms, patios, dining rooms, and guest thoroughfares. 
  • Properly reporting all tips, cash and credit card, received at the end of each shift without  exception. 


The starting wage for an Upstairs Bartender will be $2.13/hour, and they will receive a  portion of the pooled tips allocated for Bartenders as discussed above. Any tips, credit card or  cash, received directly from the customer will be retained (and properly reported) by the  employee and will not contribute to the tip pool. 


Hosts 

The Hosts will service all dining rooms and patios in the following ways: 


  • Manage the waitlist and customer seating. 
  • Maintain organization & cleanliness of host stand. 
  • Answering phones and assisting customers with their questions. 
  • Facilitate to-go orders: 
  • Coordinate with Downstairs and Upstairs Bartenders to take & enter to-go orders. 
  • Function as a point of contact for direct and third-party customers ordering to-go. 
  • Deliver orders to customers via in person or curbside pick-up. 
  • Assist in maintenance of restaurant cleanliness as needed. 
  • Including bathrooms, patios, dining rooms, and guest thoroughfares.
  • Provide additional support to servers as needed. 
  • Properly reporting all tips received at the end of each shift without exception. 


The starting wage for a Host will be $4.50/hour and they will receive a portion of the pooled  tips allocated for Hosts & Bussers. Any tips, credit card or cash, received directly from the  customer will be retained (and properly reported) by the employee and will not contribute to the tip pool. 


Bussers 

The Bussers will service all dining rooms and patios in the following ways: 


  • Bussing tables and delivering dishes to dishwashers. 
  • Cleaning and disinfecting tables. 
  • Refilling and delivering drinks at request of customers. 
  • Assist servers in restocking various Front of House goods. 
  • Maintain general restaurant cleanliness as needed. 
  • Including bathrooms, patios, dining rooms, and guest thoroughfares. 
  • Properly reporting all tips received at the end of each shift without exception. 


The starting wage for Bussers will be $7.25/hour and they will receive a portion of the  pooled tips allocated for Hosts & Bussers. Any tips, credit card or cash, received directly  from the customer will be retained (and properly reported) by the employee and will not  contribute to the tip pool. 


Servers 

The Servers will provide service to the dining rooms and patios in the following ways: 


  • Provide full service to customers in downstairs dining rooms and all patios. 
  • Service to upstairs bar customers will be limited to drinks & tapas, and be  provided by the Upstairs Bartenders. 
  • Assist in opening of the restaurant: 
  • Prepare dining rooms. 
  • Prepare service stations. 
  • Prepare small food items for use by servers in drinks, tapas, appetizers, and  desserts. For example: 
  • Cut fruit. 
  • Microwave desserts & appetizers. 
  • Plating food for delivery to customer. 
  • Whipping cream. 
  • Assist in closing the restaurant: 
  • Closing dining rooms and patios. 
  • Cleaning service stations. 
  • Confirming general cleanliness of restaurant. 
  • Restocking Front of House goods.
  • Processing cash drawers as needed. 
  • Maintain cleanliness of service stations. 
  • Assist in maintenance of restaurant cleanliness as needed. 
  • Including bathrooms, patios, dining rooms, and guest thoroughfares. 
  • Properly reporting all tips received at the end of each shift without exception. 


The starting wage for Servers will be $2.13/hour and they will contribute to the tip pool  according to the procedures described in the above section. 


Legal Compliance 

It is the policy of Root Cellar Cafe, LLC to comply with federal and state tax laws  requiring all tips/gratuities to be reported. Each pay week, payroll is required to verify that the  tips used in paying an employee in a week equal or exceed federal and/or state requirements for  the week. Each eligible staff member will receive a copy of this policy and will acknowledge by  written notice that he or she has received and understands this policy. Only staff members who contribute to a pool arrangement will be considered participants.
