Production Buyer

Talent is recruiting a Production Buyer for a direct hire opportunity with our client. The Production Buyer will be responsible for material procurement and supplier management to support efficient manufacturing operations. This role ensures raw materials, components, packaging, and indirect supplies are available to meet production needs while controlling costs, maintaining quality standards, and minimizing supply chain disruptions.


This position is fully on-site.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate supplier performance through scorecards, including on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and pricing metrics
  • Develop and maintain alternative supplier sources to reduce risk and support supply continuity
  • Partner with plant leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure uninterrupted material flow to production
  • Resolve material shortages, late deliveries, quality holds, and supply chain disruptions in a timely manner
  • Support new product launches through material readiness, supplier onboarding, and coordination of required resources
  • Coordinate engineering changes, BOM updates, and material phase-ins/phase-outs
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including OTIF, inventory turns, supplier performance, purchase price variance, schedule attainment, and forecast accuracy
  • Identify, select, and purchase materials required to support business operations
  • Build strong supplier relationships and negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and service expectations
  • Maintain accurate system records, including product details, purchase orders, delivery dates, and material requirements
  • Manage relationships with domestic, international, and custom suppliers to support incoming material needs
  • Collaborate with suppliers and carriers to improve delivery processes and ensure on-time material availability
  • Create, maintain, and track purchase orders through completion
  • Review, investigate, and resolve invoice discrepancies
  • Coordinate with internal departments to support purchasing activities and production requirements
  • Perform additional purchasing responsibilities as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing purchasing, materials management, or supply chain operations
  • Strong understanding of MRP, BOM structures, lead times and production planning processes.
  • Experience negotiating with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze data and support purchasing decisions
  • APICS CPIM / CSCP, CPSM or similar supply chain certification preferred
