Porter

A porter is required to clean and maintain public areas in a building or complex. They are expected to clean the toilets/urinals, sinks, floors and mirrors in restrooms and keep entryways and hallways free of dirt and debris. Their areas of responsibility include emptying trash throughout the facility and promptly cleaning up floor spills or wet spots created by guests, inclement weather, etc. Keeping restroom consumables such as toilet tissue and paper hand towels in stock is a vital part of the job. The porter will typically have a checklist that they maintain indicating the time each area was visited and maintained throughout their shift.


Duties and Responsibilities

A porter oversees keeping the workplace clean, organized, and disinfected. The following responsibilities include:

Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures.

Perform work assignments individually or with a team.

Take direction and respond to supervision.

Talk with manager, peers, and customers in a professional manner.

Use proper personal protective equipment.

Understand customer service and satisfaction.

Clean the interior of buildings including floors, carpets, rugs, windows, walls, and restrooms.

Maintain inventory of janitorial closet; report any low-stock items to supervisor or manager.

Remove debris from sidewalks.

Empty trash and recycling bins.

Duties and Responsibilities may change or update based on customer needs.


Building Maintenance


Entrances

Building entrances are to be policed for removal of all litter, debris and trash during the work day. Entrances should always appear neat and orderly.

Removal of trash from trash cans/receptacles on the campus exterior and replacement of trash can liners.

Spot cleaning of public display cases and display items such as statues and plaques, and lobby areas.

High traffic areas are to be continuously policed and picked up throughout the day for removal of all litter, damp mopping spillages, and emptying of trash receptacles as needed.


Bathrooms

Maintenance of an adequate supply of toiletries for replenishment in restrooms of soap, hand towels, toilet paper, sanitary products, toilet seat covers etc.

Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks.

Clean mirrors wipe down sinks and toilets and remove dirt and stains.

Trash removal.


Kitchen/Eating Areas

Dust/dry mop/sweep eating areas.

Lunch setup/cleanup (sweeping/mopping as needed).

Trash removal.

Must be energetic, pleasant, and professional.

Strong communication skills.

Recognize and understand safety requirements and meet company handbook expectations.

Ability to change tasks or assignments outside normal duties.

Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Ability to work independently.
