Lawn & Garden Center Manager
Reports to Floor Supervisor, Assistant Manager, Store Manager, District Manager

Position Summary:
Manages the operations of the specific department. Drives customer service in every way, to make shopping the department as easy and pleasant of an experience as possible. Develops expertise with all aspects of the department in order to best help our customers. Manages department associates as needed, and helps out in all areas of the store on a daily basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Upkeep of the garden center, including watering plants and setting up and taking down seasonal displays.
- Assisting customers in the garden center, running the garden checkouts, and proactively helping to load products in customer vehicles.
- Help unload and oversee incoming trucks and put away merchandise.
- Maintain your assigned department: Keep clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Execute and model the daily operations, day-to-day goals and priorities, displaying a “Speed is Life” attitude. Move with a sense of urgency while paying attention to the details.
- Manage seasonal ordering based on sales history.
- Manage sales, expenses, profits, assets, and train member’s personal development to ensure customers are receiving the highest level of customer service.
- Restock merchandise displays as needed, watch end caps and side wings. (Inside/Outside)
- Watch for shoplifters and act, in line with company policy, that will discourage shoplifting. Excellent customer service and interaction prevents shoplifting.
- Provide the best possible experience for Every Customer, Every Time by being helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly.
- When you are not with a customer or cleaning, stand in a main aisle to get the best view of customers coming into your department. Walk up and down the main aisles to be sure customers are being assisted in all departments. Oversee and instruct garden center associates in ways they can assist you. (Creating task lists for associates within the garden center)
- Serve Customers in the assigned department of the garden center and provide needed advice or information, greet customers as soon as you encounter them.
- Assist Customers with simple complaints/concerns; involved with problems as needed.
- Use the Five Foot Rule – always greet and/or acknowledge all customers within five feet of you.
- Always be polite and attentive to customers. Make eye contact and smile. Do not avoid customers.
- Promote the Ace Rewards program to all customers,and assist garden center associates in their rewards counts, describe the Ace Helpful Promise(s), and use the Magic Question.
- Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements so you can tell customers about special sales.
- Always wear your radio to effectively communicate with other managers or associates.
- Come dressed for the appropriate weather conditions, inside or outside. (Employee Handbook)
- Assist customers with large or heavy items as needed.
- Assist in the training and development of peers and new associates.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 3 years garden center experience or horticulture degree.
- Able to communicate professionally with customers and team members.
- Skilled at providing prompt, friendly, and attentive customer service.
- Strong organizational skills with a passion for details.
- Proven track record of being a team player.
- A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.
- Availability must be flexible, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
The minimum physical requirements for this position include:
- Ability to stand for an extended period, walk, reach, and bend to perform job duties. (6 to 8 hrs)
- Move and handle merchandise up to 50 pounds by yourself, and up to 75 pounds with assistance.

While performing the duties of this job, the manager occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The manager will work in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
