We are currently seeking a full-time Babies and Children’s Program Coordinator to join our growing team. 


What you will be doing:


As our Babies and Children’s Program Coordinator you will assist in organizing, planning, and providing specialized training services for blind and visually impaired babies (0-5) and children (6-14), while working toward independently managing training services under supervision.


  • Under guidance, support various aspects of individualized Early Intervention and Vision Rehabilitation Services for students (0-14) and their families by assisting with functional assessments, reflective instruction, and case management for the Babies/Children’s Program.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to create and direct group and individual sessions and program events aimed at helping students meaningfully engage with their peers socially, academically, and independently.
  • Learn to accept referrals for service of children with visual impairments (ages 0-14) and gradually take on more responsibility in managing referrals.
  • Assist with initial intakes and assessments for new students, as well as the planning and review of existing student plans, while gaining experience in this process.
  • Participate in determining program eligibility and progressively take a more active role in eligibility decisions.
  • Under the mentorship of senior staff, review and ensure assigned cases meet contract requirements and deliverables.
  • Support the creation and implementation of curriculum-based modules to prepare students and their families for success and independence, with the expectation of growing into a lead role.
  • Assist in case management tasks such as filing, data entry, lesson planning and delivery (including in-person, virtual, or remote), material preparation, scheduling, and case coordination, with a goal of taking on more independence over time.
  • Help perform functional vision and developmental assessments with children under age 5, learning to make service recommendations in collaboration with interdisciplinary providers such as schools, private therapies, and Early Steps.
  • Gain proficiency in interpreting eye/medical reports as they relate to educational, home, and community environments.
  • Assist with counseling and empowering students and their families on communication skills, mobility skills, social interaction, independent living skills, recreation skills, career planning, assistive technology, self-advocacy, and visual efficiency.
  • Work alongside senior staff to schedule and coordinate group and individual sessions for students in relation to their academic, social, and expanded core curriculum needs, while developing skills to lead these sessions independently.
  • Support coordination of services with Lighthouse of SWFL instructional staff and outside resources to enhance services for students and families, with the goal of taking on more responsibility over time.
  • Assist in coordinating services in alignment with students’ IEP plans, learning to manage these independently.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of extended day and summer camp activities, with increasing responsibility as experience grows.
  • Employee is expected to appear for work at the office location or at client locations as scheduled during work hours, with mentorship provided as they grow into the role.


What we are looking for:


  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education or special education (Teacher of the Visually Impaired) or a related vision rehabilitation field (Vision Rehabilitation or Orientation & Mobility). A Master’s degree in education, special education, or field of vision rehabilitation is encouraged for future career development.
  • Experience in the field of Vision Rehabilitation is preferred, with a willingness to engage in ongoing professional development. (preferred)
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) required, with a commitment to learning and growing technical skills.
  • Certification required: TVI, CVRT, CLVT, or COMS, or the ability to obtain certification within a specified period.
  • Certification preferred: VIISA (0-3), VIISA (3-5), and INSITE, with the expectation to work towards these certifications if not already obtained.
