Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll Accountant to support our finance and accounting operations. This role is responsible for processing payroll, prepapering journal entries and financial reports, and supporting the period-end close process. The ideal candidate has a good understanding of payroll processes and accounting principles, strong analytical skills, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and manage weekly payroll accurately and in compliance with company policies and applicable laws
- Manage employee deductions and garnishments
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries
- Prepare account reconciliations, schedules, and reports
- Assist with and support the month-end and year-end close processes
- Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies and resolve issues
- Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure proper documentation
- Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company controls
- Collaborate with internal departments to gather and verify financial information
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (4-year degree required)
- 2+ years of experience in payroll processing and/or accounting (multi-location experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, wage laws, and compliance requirements
- Experience auditing timesheets, PTO balances, and payroll reports for accuracy
- Experience working with payroll systems (Toast Payroll preferred)
- Experience supporting multi-unit operations (restaurants or hospitality preferred)
- Comfortable enforcing payroll controls and following up on missing or incorrect data
- Ability to manage sensitive/confidential information with discretion
- Good knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in accounting software (Intacct is a plus) and Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
- Ability to meet critical deadlines while managing multiple priorities
Position will be on-site in Sevierville TN
