Toddler Teacher

Rate of pay$24 - 30 per hour


Reports To: Assistant Director 

Position Summary: Responsible for planning and implementing the daily routines of the toddler room, engaging toddlers in developmental activities, supervising the assistants, and ensuring the safety of the toddlers by performing the following duties. 


Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

• Greets children and parents/guardians in a professional and enthusiastic manner each day. 

• Maintains a happy, sanitary, and relaxed atmosphere in the toddler room by following daily procedures and routines. 

• Prepares executes and discusses toddler feeding routines with parents/guardians to meet individual needs. Instruct assistants in this responsibility. 

• Plans individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment. 

• Works with the lead teacher to provide lesson plans on a weekly / monthly basis to be approved by the director. 

• Work closely with the lead teacher in a team-teaching atmosphere and share pertinent information, suggestions, and ideas on a regular basis. 

• Interacts with children through instructional methods to include play, music, arts and crafts, reading, writing, computer, and physical activities. 

• Teaches children an appropriate toddler curriculum including but not limited to the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, hand washing, and potty training. 

• Develops and maintains a positive and confidential relationship with the parents of every child, including thorough communication about the program and each child’s progress 

• Changes toddler’s diapers or clothes as needed, adhering to always appropriate diapering procedures to include assuring the cleanliness of work areas and proper disposal of diapers. 

• Prepare and execute nap time routine to include creating a relaxing environment for the toddlers. 

• Maintains written documentation of each child's daily activities to include but not limited to diapering, feeding, and sleeping habits and forwards reports to parents/guardians. 

Completes accurate attendance sheets daily, tallies a number of toddlers in attendance, and notifies the Lead Teacher of absences. 

• Administers and documents toddler’s medications in accordance with Meaning Beginnings policies.

• Remains aware of talents, special abilities, disabilities, deficiencies, or problems of each individual child. 

• Maintains work areas in a sanitary and attractive manner to include, but not limited to sanitizing high chairs, tables, microwaves, kitchen countertops, and sinks after feedings and at the end of each day. 

• Washes and inspects children’s toys daily or more often as needed for sanitary and safety concerns. 

• Ensures that toys and equipment are returned to appropriate places by the end of the day unless otherwise directed. 

• Communicates with parents/guardians regarding the special needs of toddlers. 

• Works closely with the lead teacher in a team-teaching atmosphere and shares pertinent 

information, suggestions, and ideas on a regular basis. 

• Attends parent/guardian, staff, and conference meetings as scheduled. 

• Participates in required training programs, conferences, courses, or other aspects of professional growth. Must be up to date with any state-required training. 

• Work alongside and delegate responsibilities among toddler assistants in completing essential duties, procedures, and routines of the toddler room. Ensure that the work schedule is being followed by assistants. 

• Promotes and fosters each toddler’s positive self-esteem and individual development toward their fullest potential in the areas of physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. 

• Ensures all childcare supplies are sufficient and reports any additional supplies needed to lead the teacher. 

• Reports any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate party for follow-through. 

• Adheres to all established policies, procedures, and codes of ethics. 

• Maintains a positive interpersonal relationship with all children, co-workers, and parents/guardians. 

• Performs other related duties as assigned. 



Requirements:

  • Each teacher will need a minimum of 12-semester units of ECE in the three core areas of Child Growth, Development, Child and Family Community, and Curriculum. 3 of the ECE units should be focused on infant/toddler care. In addition, 1 year of specific training and/or experience in an infant or toddler care which may be demonstrated by obtaining an Infant Toddler Child Care credential 
  • Certificates and Licenses: 
  • Qualified by the Office of Children & Family Services, CPR & First Aid certification is required after hiring and must be maintained.
