Human Resource Generalist

Purpose of Position

The People Experience Generalist USA is responsible for overall people practices within US restaurants, in conjunction with the Head of GYG USA, the People Experience Business Partner and Chief People Officer, Australia.  The People Experience Generalist works in alignment with overall business strategy and drives people strategy to support business objectives across culture, engagement, benefits, remuneration, recruitment, performance, training and development, employee relations, succession planning, compliance, retention, workplace health and safety and workers compensation. The People Experience Generalist USA will collaborate closely with the People Experience Business Partner, Australia to execute the overall GYG People Strategy within the USA business.

Duties and Responsibilities


Strategy & Analysis  

  • Work with People Team AUS and Head of GYG USA to develop and expand the AUS people
  • strategy and execute relevant to US People function.
  • Ensure best in class support for our restaurants.
  • Analyze data to generate strategy to forward plan, improve restaurant results and
  • people experience.
  • Prepare, analyze and distribute people reporting for Operations team.
  • Work with the Operations team to design and implement corrective actions and assess results.

Culture / Engagement

  • Drive and contribute to creating an engaged culture within the Operations team, partnering with the Operations
  • Managers and Head of Restaurant Operations.
  • Regularly visit the restaurants to coach leaders, drive people initiatives and proactively identify opportunities
  • to improve employee experience. 
  • Support in driving engagement surveys, from execution and assessment of action plans.
  • Provide continuous coaching and guidance to operations team on human resource best practice in line with GYG culture and values.

Talent & Onboarding

  • Lead and manage end to end recruitment for all junior and mid-level roles while supporting the Head of GYG US with Senior appointments.
  • Accountable for effective people resourcing to support current and future business needs through attraction, selection, retention, talent pools and development initiatives.       
  • Proactively assess at risk roles and work collaboratively to proactively source talent.  
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships; building trust through delivering results, teamwork and communication. ·       
  • Responsible for the enhancement of the GYG US employer branding on all hiring platforms.
  • Provide a positive candidate experience and ensure hiring managers adhere to the correct processes.
  • Oversee the onboarding process end to end, for all GYG employees ensuring all necessary process are in place and executed to standard. ·       
  • Continuously improve onboarding experience for team members.

Performance Management / Comp & Bens

  • Ensure all team members acknowledge and understand the requirements of their roles.
  • Ensure performance management resources are up to date and in line with legislative requirements.
  • Ensure leaders are educated on the performance management life cycle and disciplinary processes.
  • Authorize all formal disciplinary outcomes.
  • Oversee succession planning framework, and provide reporting on readiness levels and gaps 
  • Oversee the generation and implementation of career development plans.
  • Manage annual pay review, agree on budget, work with leadership on pay-rises and promotions, calculate overall costs and obtain signed off. 
  • Communicate pay changes to payroll processors, manage communication process to restaurants and operations team.        
  • Manage the quarterly bonus review in conjunction with finance and operations team, ensuring bonuses are paid promptly at the end of each quarter.

Payroll

  • Oversee payroll ensuring all necessary process are in place in managing the outsourced arrangement.
  • Ensure GYG is compliant on all relevant industrial instruments and workplace laws associated with payroll.      
  • Manage the relationship with the outsourced payroll provider, escalating issues Head of GYG USA if required.

ER & Compliance

  • Ensure all complaints are managed in line with grievance procedure and investigated in line with GYG process.
  • Manage all complex case management.
  • Create and manage case management tracker, ensuring record is maintained accurately and promptly, identifying trends and training opportunities.
  • Ensure constant adherence with employment legislation changes and updates, actioning accordingly.
  • Proactively ensure Operations team is educated on employment legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to policy development and roll out to ensure clarity on GYG standards and expectations.

Workers Compensation       

  • Ensure workers compensation claims are lodged promptly and communicated to all relevant parties once they are accepted.
  • Manage all claims, end to end.
  • Maintain workers compensation claims register and review with Head of GYG US and People Experience Business Partner regularly as needed.

 

Essential Requirements & Behaviors


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Human Resources, Psychology or related subject.
  • Proven experience in a similar role within a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience creating and rolling out new processes.
  • Excellent understanding of American employment law, and disciplinary management.

Excellent Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • High level people management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Personable and approachable disposition.

Reporting Acumen and Numeracy:

  • Ability to understand, interpret and explain people reports and strong excel skills.

Coaching & Education Skills:

  • Advanced coaching skills, comfortable delivering feedback to all different types of people (age, experience, culture etc).
  • Ability to develop and deliver People & Culture training to build skills levels of operational management.      

Technology Skills:

  • Strong computer/ IT acumen including the ability to use Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to develop competence in various GYG systems.
