Position Overview
The Sous Chef works directly with the kitchen leadership team to manage daily production, supervise kitchen staff, and ensure that all food leaving the kitchen meets Sheild Catering standards for quality, consistency, and presentation.
This role requires someone who can lead by example during prep and service, stay organized under pressure, and maintain strong kitchen systems.
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Leadership
• Assist in supervising cooks, event staff, and kitchen assistants
• Help coordinate daily kitchen workflow and production schedules
• Support training and mentoring of kitchen team members
Food Preparation and Production
• Prepare menu items according to company recipes and standards
• Maintain high standards for flavor, consistency, and presentation
• Assist with execution of large catering orders and event production
Kitchen Operations
• Help oversee prep schedules, production timelines, and service execution
• Assist with expediting during large event production and busy service periods
• Ensure the kitchen remains organized, clean, and efficient
Inventory and Ordering
• Monitor ingredient inventory and assist with ordering and supply management
• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of products
Quality and Food Safety
• Maintain compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
• Ensure all dishes leaving the kitchen meet Sheild Catering quality expectations
Problem Solving
• Address kitchen challenges quickly to keep service running smoothly
• Support the team during high volume production and event preparation
Ideal Candidate
• 2 or more years of professional kitchen experience
• Previous leadership experience in a kitchen environment preferred
• Strong organization and communication skills
• Ability to perform in a fast paced production environment
• Passion for hospitality and high quality food
• Reliable transportation
