The daily nine-to-five work schedule has been the norm for most businesses for a long time. While there is nothing wrong with this, other organizations are exploring a different work schedule that offers an alternative. It might be very different than what employees are accustomed to. What is a 9/80 Work Schedule? 

A 9/80 work schedule generally means 80 hours in nine days. It is an alternative schedule that compresses or fits in two weeks’ worth of work in fewer days. A 9/80 work schedule adds one hour for eight workdays while retaining one eight-hour day in two weeks. In doing so, employees will have earned an extra day off. 

It is helpful to keep in mind that businesses with this system commonly break the eight-hour workday into two four-hour periods wherein the first week ends after the first four-hour period and the second week begins with the second four-hour period. This way, each week still has 40 work hours each.
