Cable Technician Job Description

A cable technician is a service worker who helps residential and commercial customers with their internet and cable television services. Cable technicians are called when a customer is having trouble with one of their cable-based services. The technician will drive to the customer’s home or place of business and then troubleshoot the issues until they’re resolved.

A cable technician can work on both feeder lines (which provide cable to several homes) and drop lines (which are only accessible by one home). As a cable technician advances in their career and becomes more knowledgeable, they may also spend some of their time working on the trunk line. This is the main cable line for the entire service area.

Employees in this role spend their days inspecting cable lines, laying ground cable, and making repairs. They also drive their work vehicle from one customer’s location to the next.
