Certified Nurse Midwife Job Description

A certified nurse midwife, also called a CNM, is a health professional that focuses primarily on reproductive health and the birthing process. Their focus may include gynecological services, postpartum care, and peri-post menopause care. CNMs often work in hospitals alongside other nurses without this qualification. However, they can also attend births that take place in the home.

CNMs can perform a variety of tasks in support of their overall focus on birth. This can include counseling and educating patients, providing newborn care for the first 28 days of life, and providing advice on issues like breastfeeding. CNMs need to hold both a registered nursing license and a certification from an authorized body in midwifery in order to practice.
